The Youth & Amateur Sports Association (TYASA) is dedicated to transforming the landscape of youth sports by offering structured, inclusive, and developmental programs for children and teenagers aged 4-17. We are committed to providing a broad range of sports opportunities, especially in areas where high schools may not offer specific sports like ice hockey, lacrosse, or swimming. Our goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of where they live, has the opportunity to pursue their athletic passions and achieve their goals.
For younger children aged 4-14, TYASA focuses on foundational development across various sports. Our programs emphasize the importance of physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while also nurturing the specific skills needed for each sport. At this critical stage, children are introduced to the basics of the game, with a focus on:
Skill Development: Our programs are designed to help young athletes develop the fundamental skills required for their chosen sport, whether it’s basketball, soccer, gymnastics, or swimming. Through age-appropriate drills and exercises, children build the technical abilities that will serve as the foundation for their future athletic endeavors.
Physical Fitness: TYASA promotes overall physical fitness, encouraging children to stay active and healthy. Our programs incorporate exercises that improve strength, coordination, agility, and endurance, which are essential for success in any sport.
Cognitive Growth: Beyond physical skills, TYASA programs are structured to enhance cognitive development. Children learn about strategy, problem-solving, and decision-making, which are important both on and off the field.
Character Building: We emphasize values like sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork. Our coaches are trained to instill these values in young athletes, helping them become well-rounded individuals.
By the time these athletes reach high school age, they are not only prepared to excel in their chosen sports but are also equipped with the life skills that will help them succeed in all areas of life.
High School-Aged Athletes (14-17): Pursuing Passions and Achieving Goals
For athletes aged 14-17, TYASA offers programs that not only complement the sports offered in high schools but also provide opportunities in sports that may not be available in certain regions. For instance, while some high schools may not offer ice hockey, TYASA can establish and govern ice hockey leagues if there is enough interest and support from the community.
Complementing High School Sports: TYASA does not seek to compete with high school sports programs but to complement them. We offer additional training, league play, and competition in sports that align with the interests of high school athletes but may not be available through their schools.
Specialized Sports Opportunities: TYASA is committed to offering sports that may be less common in certain areas. By doing so, we ensure that all athletes have the chance to pursue their passions. Whether it’s ice hockey, lacrosse, or another sport not widely offered, TYASA is prepared to develop programs that meet the needs of high school-aged athletes.
Preparing for the Next Level: With the rapidly changing landscape of youth sports, including new rules, policies, procedures, and the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, it is essential that our youth are prepared for what lies ahead. TYASA provides comprehensive resources, including training on NIL, to help athletes navigate these new opportunities responsibly and successfully.
College and Career Preparation: Our programs also focus on preparing athletes for college and beyond. TYASA offers guidance on college recruitment, scholarships, and career paths in sports-related fields, ensuring that our athletes are well-prepared for the future.
As the governing body, TYASA is responsible for setting the standards and regulations for all sports programs under our umbrella. Each state association under TYASA will be empowered to govern the sports within their respective regions, ensuring consistency, fairness, and safety across all programs. Our mission is to provide leadership and support that will help every state association thrive and, in turn, offer the best possible sports experiences to our youth.
With the evolving nature of youth sports, TYASA recognizes the need for structured, comprehensive programs that not only develop athletic talent but also prepare our youth for the challenges of tomorrow. By providing opportunities in both traditional and non-traditional sports, TYASA is committed to fostering a generation of athletes who are not only skilled in their sports but also well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact on the world.
